"My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honour depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."

I found a photo of this young girl online. Her surroundings were humble, her clothing shabby--no evidence of physical comforts or security--but in her expression I found such a look of peace, rest, & contentment.
We often talk about the ‘faith’ and ‘trust’ of a child. Even in the midst of the most tragic circumstances a child can often be seen having fallen asleep in their parent’s lap; their faces still stained from the tears shed as they poured out their hearts before resting secure in their mother or father’s arms. The ‘boogeyman’ was not vanquished, the hurtful words unsaid, or the loss of a beloved pet undone; yet somehow all of that fades into the background--for in their parent’s arms they are heard, they are loved, they are safe…and they find rest.
‘Rest’, ‘Trust’, ‘Pour out’… in times of both chaos and silence we yearn to find rest, to trust in something sure when everything seems shaken, and to pour out our hearts in honest, broken confession to a comforting heart that will listen.
Enter the Great I AM. I love how the psalmist David words this portion of Psalm 62. Note how all of the attributes of peace & security rest not in the circumstances nor in the psalmist himself; but in GOD! “My soul finds rest IN GOD alone” Why? Because “my salvation COMES FROM HIM. HE is my rock and my salvation…my fortress “ so “I will not be shaken”! “My salvation and my honour depend ON GOD; HE is my mighty rock, my refuge”! Then David builds to an exhortation: “Trust IN HIM at ALL TIMES, O people, pour out your hearts TO HIM” Why? “for GOD is our refuge”!
Oh God, grant me the trust of a child that I would find my peace, my rest, & my joy in YOU—my Heavenly Father—ALONE as I choose to rest…trust…and pour out my heart to YOU my refuge, my rock, my salvation, my God, and my Father!
